The City of Lorain Black River Dredge Material Reuse Facility is operational and began accepting material in August 2024. Navigational dredging is critical to ensuring our river stays deep enough for shipping vessels, and the City has worked in lock-step with the Ohio EPA, Ohio Department of Natural Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers - Buffalo District, Coldwater Consulting, Mark Haynes Construction, and several local and national partners to ensure this build was delivered successfully.
The facility is actively accepted dredge material in the fall of 2024 and material was successfully harvested in spring 2025.
The City of Lorain extends our appreciation to the agencies and decision makers responsible for the grant awards that allowed for the design, engineering, and construction of this facility: the Ohio Department of Natural Resources through the Healthy Lake Erie Fund & the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency through Ohio Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds.
