Goal
The goal of the Planning & Zoning Code is to promote the health, safety, and welfare of the citizens of Lorain while addressing the current challenges presented by changing land use patterns and further economic development efforts.
Background
On January 4, 2021, the City of Lorain passed legislation (Ordinance 4-21) to replace the Planning & Zoning Code. As of February 5, 2021, the new Zoning Code is in full effect and in force.
The City of Lorain Building, Housing & Planning Department developed the Zoning code in conjunction with the Lorain Planning Commission and Lorain City Council. All parties worked diligently to incorporate feedback from the many work sessions conducted by the Building and Lands Committee of Lorain City Council.
Planning & Zoning Division
The Planning and Zoning Administrator is tasked with enforcing the Zoning Code. The Administrator is the primary contact to answer zoning-related questions, reviews and approves building permits, and serves as Secretary to the Planning and Zoning Commission. The Administrator also processes Conditional Use Permit Applications, Lot Split Applications, Plat Approval Applications, Reclassification of Property Applications, and Variance Applications to be considered for approval by the Planning and Zoning Commission.
