The Lorain Police Department offers community programs that focus on education, engagement, and public safety. These programs provide residents with opportunities to connect with the department, learn about police operations, and participate in community-focused initiatives.
Safety Town
Safety Town is an educational program designed to teach young children essential safety skills in an age-appropriate setting.
The program focuses on:
- Traffic and pedestrian safety
- Stranger awareness
- Personal safety concepts
Safety Town is typically offered during scheduled sessions and is intended for young children.

Residents may sign up for Safety Town using the online registration form below:
Ride-Along Program
The Ride-Along Program allows residents to observe police operations by accompanying an officer during a scheduled shift.
Before signing up, please confirm you:
- Have valid photo ID
- Understand approval and a background check are required.
- Agree to act as an observer only and follow all instructions
- Will not record, photograph, or carry weapons
- Accept the risks and liability waiver
This program provides insight into daily police operations and decision-making.

Ride-Along Application
Police Auxiliary Program
The Police Auxiliary Program is made up of trained volunteers who assist the Lorain Police Department in a non-enforcement role.
Auxiliary members may assist with:
- Community events
- Traffic control for special events
- Public safety support activities
Participation requires department approval and training. This program supports both department operations and community engagement.
