Request Records

Police Records & Reports

Police reports and crash reports may be requested through the appropriate system or the Lorain Police Department Records Department. All requests are subject to Ohio public records law and investigative restrictions.

Before You Request a Record

Please review the following before submitting a request:

  • Some reports may not be immediately available due to active investigations
  • Requests should be submitted at least 24 hours after the incident
  • Most reports are available within 72 hours
  • Availability depends on report type and investigative status

Police Reports (Non-Crash)

Police reports may be requested directly from the Lorain Police Department Records Department.

Please include as much identifying information as possible (date, location, names).

Crash Reports

Most traffic crash reports are obtained through the Ohio Department of Public Safety Crash Retrieval System.

To locate a crash report, at least one of the following is required:

  • County of crash
  • Date of crash
  • Driver’s last name
  • Agency that handled the report

Recent Crash Reports

If a crash report is less than 5 days old, it may not yet be available online.

Private Property Crashes

Crash reports involving private property are handled by the Lorain Police Department.

To request a private property crash report:

  • Visit the Lorain Police Department in person
  • Email: lpdrecordsrequest@cityoflorain.org

Important Notes

  • Investigative reports may be delayed or restricted
  • Some information may be redacted as required by law
  • Records staff may contact you if additional information is needed
