Lorain Police Department Proudly Announces Three Officer Promotions
LPD PROMOTES THREE OFFICERS
Three promoted officers took their new oaths of office on Friday, December 27, 2013.
Roger W. Watkins (photo, center) joined the City of Lorain Police Department in July, 1997, was appointed Sergeant in 2006, Lieutenant in 2009, and has now been promoted to the position of Captain.
Captain Watkins has served as S.W.A.T. Team Commander, Detective, Supervisor of the Narcotics and Special Investigations Unit, Patrol Operations Dayshift Commander, Patrol Operations Nightshift Commander, and as a member of the Lorain Police Department Accident/Pursuit Review Board to name some of the positions he has fulfilled.
Captain Watkins has an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Justice Systems – Police Science bestowed by Lorain County Community College. He served in the United States Air Force before becoming a police officer. Captain Watkins is the recipient of the Commendation Ribbon (with star), the Special Service Ribbon, the Good Conduct Ribbon, and Safe Driving Ribbon received in the performance of his duties.

Allan G. Cornwell (photo, right) is the Lorain Police Department Traffic Commissioner as well as serving in the position of Operations Commander’s Staff Officer. His appointment to the position of Lieutenant follows his progression with LPD as Patrolman in 1996, and Sergeant in 2010. He was deputized by the US Marshals to assist with the US Marshal’s Lorain County Task Force serving warrants and has served as Patrol Team Supervisor as well as on the Lorain Police Department Accident/Pursuit Review Board and the Aggression Response Review Board.
Lieutenant Cornwell is the recipient of several merit reports, as well as commendations from citizens for the excellent manner in which he has executed his positions with the LPD. He holds the Lorain Police Department Good Conduct and Safe Driving Ribbons.

A. J. (Andrew) Mathewson (photo, left) became a Lorain Police Officer in 1999. His appointment to the position of Sergeant with the Department follows his progression from Patrol Officer to S.W.A.T. Officer to Detective with the Narcotics and Special Investigations Unit.
Sergeant Mathewson has been recognized for his contributions to the Department by the awarding of the Commendation Ribbon (with star), the Good Conduct Ribbon, and the Special Service Ribbon. He is the recipient of several Merit Reports for actions in his positions reflecting dedication to the Department and his fellow officers as well as to his profession.
