NEWS RELEASE: Cop Logic, On-Line Reporting System
The service will allow the public to file a report at a time that is best for them without having to wait for an officer to respond or call them back. The public will be able to print a temporary copy of the report upon submitting the report. The report will be reviewed by police personnel and once approved the filing person will receive an email with a copy of the report attached without cost. The report will transfer into the Lorain Police Department's records management system and receive the same investigation and statistical analysis as if the report had been filed by a police officer.
The purpose of providing this on-line option is to utilize current technology to meet the reporting requirements of our citizens (when the crime is not in progress and there are no suspects), while at the same time freeing up officers to concentrate on high priority community needs. Given the critical manpower situation that the Police Department finds itself in, it is imperative that we take whatever steps necessary to assure that adequate backup is available to our officers in the field. The Lorain Police Department will be using the Desk Officer Online Reporting System from San Ramon, California based software company, Coplogic, Inc.. The web based crime reporting service will start on Monday, May 23, 2011 and can be accessed through the Lorain Police Department website www.lorainpolice.com. It is our intent that CopLogic's online reporting system will complement PoliceReportsU.S. and CrimeReports.com. PoliceReports.U.S. allows citizens to go online and print up copies of vehicle accident reports; this reduces the number of people that have to come to the police station for copies and the vast amount of mail and fax requests that we receive. Last month 1800 individuals and insurance companies chose to get their accident reports online. CrimeReports.com allows the public to get timely reports of crime that has occurred in a specific neighborhood during a specific time. The Lorain Police Department will continue to research alternative technological methods that will improve police service for the citizens of Lorain.
