Welcome
Dear Resident,
The Lorain Parks and Recreation Department staff has been diligently planning for an exciting and promising year of activity. Our vast system, which encompasses 56 parks covering more than 800 acres, has provided countless hours of enjoyment and life-long memories for generations.
We hope you will join the hundreds on Easter and take a family picture with the Easter Bunny at Lakeview or Oakwood Park, march in the annual Halloween Parade, or visit Santa and his elves at their workshop during the holiday season at Century Park Harbor House.
Allow your family to enjoy one of our 22 playgrounds, 19 baseball/softball fields, 10 soccer fields, or three city swimming pools. Shoot baskets at one of our 16 basketball courts, play tennis at Lakeview, or enroll in our youth summer playground program. Experience our many picnic facilities and amenities, take a stroll through Oakwood Park and view the dozens of squirrels and birds, or utilize the beautiful walkways surrounding Longfellow, Central, and Oakwood Parks for walking, jogging, or bike riding.
Take advantage of our adult co-rec volleyball league, Girls of Summer softball league, swimming lessons, men’s slow pitch softball, and boat launching ramps at muni-dock. Visit the newly built Pipe Yard Baseball Stadium at PC Campana Park and watch Cleveland State University, the “High School Rivalry Series”, Oberlin College, Lorain County Community College, Northern Ohio Semi-Professional League, Lorain County High School All-Star game or regional tournament. Plan to be one of hundreds that will attend “Rube Foster Night” on April 12th, honoring The Negro Professional Baseball League before the Southview vs. Lorain Admiral King baseball game.
Make the effort, get involved and participate in an exciting upcoming Parks & Recreation season. The parks in Lorain are an integral part of our past, present, and future. Their mere presence consciously and sub-consciously evokes emotion and reflection. Our tie to them is immeasurable, often inexplicable, but nonetheless omnipresent. Please plan to make Lorain Parks and Recreation a part of your family’s recreational schedule.
Sincerely,
Lorain Parks & Recreation Dept.
