The City Law Director is elected for a term of four years. The responsibilities of the office include:

Preparing all contracts, bonds and written instruments in which the City of Lorain is concerned.
Serves the several directors, officers of councilpersons of the City of Lorain.
Responsible for prosecuting and defending all complaints, suits and controversies in which the City of Lorain is a party.
Responds to requests for legal opinions received from Lorain City Officers, directors, and councilpersons.
Responsible for drafting and reviewing ordinances to be considered by Lorain City council.
Serves as prosecuting attorney for the Lorain Municipal Court; prosecutes all cases brought before the court.
