ATTENTION LORAIN RESIDENTS WHO ARE EMPLOYED OUTSIDE THE CITY OF LORAIN

Karen Shawver, Treasurer, City of Lorain

On December 21, 2009, Lorain City Council passed legislation that will affect the amount of withholding tax you will owe the City of Lorain by reducing the tax credit for tax paid to other cities from 2% to 1%.

In prior years, when you filed your Lorain city income tax, you were given credit on your return for up to 2% (City of Lorain’s tax rate) that was withheld from your wages and paid to the city that you work in.

Effective January 1, 2010, the tax credit given to you for taxes paid to other cities will be 1%.

You may wish to contact your tax preparer or tax consultant to determine the amount you will owe in 2011 (for your 2010 tax return) and begin making quarterly payments to the City of Lorain during 2010. This will reduce your tax liability in 2011.

If you have any questions regarding the tax credit or any Income Tax matter, please contact the City of Lorain Income Tax Department at 440-204-1002 Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:30 am and 4:30 pm.
